Singapore’s Beverage Container Return Scheme: A Guide to the 10¢ Refund
As Singapore advances toward the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) introduces a financial incentive to foster a nationwide recycling culture. By utilizing a simple "deposit-refund" model, consumers can reclaim a 10-cent deposit on plastic bottles and metal cans through Return Right machines. This initiative aims to recycle 80% of beverage containers annually, diverting waste from Semakau Landfill and supporting a circular economy where materials are given a "second life".
